Content Sharing Sites

There are two main types of content sharing sites that you can use to build your business. The first type of content sharing site we are going to discuss is Article Directories. The biggest and most effective article sharing site is Ezine Articles. All you do is write an article about any topic you want and submit it to Ezine Articles and other article directories. For the body of the article, you are sharing information only. You don’t promote or link to your money site in the body of the article. At the end of the article, you create an Author Bio. In this section you tell a little about yourself and link back to your money site. The best way to use article directories is to write an article about how to use the product you are promoting then link back to your money site where people can buy the product you were talking about. The key is to make sure you provide helpful information before making your recommendation on what to buy. This way you are presenting yourself as a helpful expert instead of a pushy salesman.

In addition to article directories, there are other useful content sharing sites you can put your content on. Two of the most popular content sharing sites are Hubpages and Squidoo. They allow you to make web pages with your content. You can put in many different sections like pictures, videos, and surveys. Just like with article directories, you want to make sure you are providing good information before making the recommendation to visit your money site and buy your stuff. These sites have been used by a lot of spammers over the last couple years and are getting more strict on their rules, but if you are providing good information and not being overly pushy, you can still use them to connect with potential customers and get them to visit your money site.

Blogging for Fun and Profit

Now let’s talk about blogging for a minute. There are a couple different ways you can blog. You can install a blog on your own domain. Google loves blogs and they are so easy to manage. I don’t know of any serious online marketer that isn’t using a blog because of how easy they are to use and how well they rank. The second way of blogging is to use blog sites that are not on your own domain and this is where you can really use the power of blogs to build your business.

By using blog sites that you don’t own, you can set up a network of sites that point back to your money site. In addition to providing valuable links that improve your search engine rankings, these blogs can rank very well by themselves. Three of the most effective blogs are Wordpress.com, Blogger.com, and TypePad.com. Wordpress.com, Blogger.com, and a bunch of other sites are free. TypePad.com is a paid service, but it frequently ranks highly in Google so you may want to spend a little money to have a TypePad.com blog. The one thing you have to remember when using these sites is to follow their terms of service. Since you don’t own the site, you have to follow their rules or you may get your account closed. As long as you provide good content and don’t get too aggressive with your marketing efforts, you should be ok.

As with all social media, the key to effective blogging is to be consistent and provide valuable content for your readers. It is also important to make sure you get your content on as many sites as possible. There is a site called Posterous that helps you automate your content distribution. Posterous.com is a free blog that also connects to other blog sites like Wordpress, Blogger, and TypePad. Whenever you put a post on Posterous, it automatically posts on the other site at the same time. This allows you to get 5 or more posts and links for each article you write. Posterous is free to use and can really multiply the effectiveness of your blogging.

Automated Video Marketing

Even though YouTube is the largest video sharing site out there, there are a lot of other places where people watch videos so you shouldn’t ignore them. There is a site called Traffic Geyser that can help you automatically submit your videos to all of the video sharing sites, not just YouTube. All you do is upload the video to Traffic Geyser and put in the title you want and description and your video will automatically be sent to all the video sharing sites on a schedule you set up. For example, you can put the video in and have it submitted once every 12 hours to a different site. This way, you are putting out new content every 12 hours for a week or two instead of sending all out at once. These items are crucial to your video rankings so having a bunch of friends that can help you is great. Subscribers are also good because they get updated every time you post a new video and may watch, like, and comment on them automatically. Introduction to YouTube Marketing

If you have ever watched a video on the internet, and even if you have not, you probably know about YouTube. YouTube is an absolute monster on the internet. I have seen some statistics on the number of users and videos watched and those numbers are in the hundreds of millions and billions so they really are too big to comprehend. Here are a few concepts for you to consider. Video is proven to be the single best way to communicate with people and people spend a lot of time watching online videos. YouTube is also one of the largest search engines. That means people are using YouTube to search for things the same way they use Google. And if that isn’t enough to get you started on creating videos, Google owns YouTube and YouTube videos consistently show up on Google rankings almost immediately without any other promotion. Simply put, YouTube is one of the most powerful, if not the most powerful, ways to market your business.

The key to using YouTube effectively is to just do it. You don’t need a bunch of fancy equipment or software. In fact, many professional marketers believe simple “real-life” videos are more effective than fancy professional videos. You can get an inexpensive, high quality video camera for about $150. You can use this portable camera to make videos anywhere. If you want to sit in front of your computer and record something, you can use a web came that may already be built into your laptop or you can get an inexpensive one to plug into your USB port. If you don’t want to be on camera, you can make slide show videos using software like Camtasia Studio which only costs a couple hundred dollars or you can use the free version called Jing. You can even upgrade to the “professional” version of Jing for $15 a year which gives you the ability to mix your web cam with a slide show presentation. The bottom line is that you can get started making videos for little or no money. If you want to get “fancy”, you can get a camera and professional editing software for less than $500. No matter which option you choose, the key is to get started.

Introduction to Twitter Marketing

Twitter is a huge social media site which continues to grow on a daily basis. It is a place where celebrities gather millions of fans and every day people get thousands of people following their every tweet. Officially called micro-blogging, twitter allows users to share short messages with all of their fans and the world in general.

Twitter is extremely easy to set up and get started with. There are lots of different strategies to get twitter followers. One strategy is to simply follow somebody because many people will “follow you back”. There are programs out there that will help you automate this process and if you just Google for “twitter followers” there will be a lot of options for you to check out. As with Facebook, the key is to consistently deliver good content to the Twitter community. Fortunately, there is an easy way to do this using programs like Market Me Suite or a host of others.

Using automation programs, you can set up automated Tweets to go out whenever you choose. You could literally sit down and spend time composing 10 to 20 tweets and set them up to go out over the next week and make it look like you are using Twitter on a regular basis even though you only do it once a week. Each time a tweet goes out, there is a chance more people will become your follower or re-tweet your message which further increases your exposure.

The key to using Twitter effectively is to provide valuable content. Make sure you aren’t constantly sending out “buy my stuff” tweets. You can do that every now and then, but the key is to focus on delivering good content and links that people are going to want to share. If you do that, you will get more followers so that when you do send out a “buy my stuff” tweet, more people see it and trust your recommendation because you have shared good information with them in the past.

Automate Your Facebook Fan Page

Facebook fan pages are one of the easiest and most effective ways to share your product, service, or business with people in your local area. When done right, you can get thousands or even tens of thousands of people to “like” your page. Whenever you update the page, they get updates on their Facebook wall which can be clicked on and shared with others.

The key to having an effective fan page is to keep it updated. This can be a lot of work, but fortunately, there is a way you can automate it it. There are programs out there (one is called Market Me Suite) that allows you to automate your activities and can save you a bunch of time. Because of the way people can click on your posts and recommend them to friends, you want to make sure you are delivering content on a regular basis. For example, if you came across 7 different articles you want to share with your fans, you could put them all up at the same time, but that really minimizes the impact because they will all be grouped together and only the people that are on Facebook close to the time you post them will see them. However, if you set them up to post once a day for a week, for example, you spread out your exposure and it is 7 times more likely that somebody will see one of the posts and click over to your fan page and see all of your updates. Market Me Suite can help you do this automatically. Promoting Your Facebook Fan Page

Facebook fan pages are a great way to promote your business or website. After you create your page, you need to promote it to the world. There are three primary ways that you can tell the world about your new page.

The first thing you can do to promote your fan page is to click the “like” button yourself. When you do this, it will be noted on your profile and all of your friends will see that you have “liked” a new page. Hopefully, some of your friends will visit the fan page and like it too. If they do, their friends will get the same update and maybe some of their friends will like the page. As you can see, the simple act of liking a page can cascade into a bunch of other people visiting and liking the page. Do you see how powerful this is? That is the beauty of Facebook and social media in general.

The second way you can promote your new fan page is to invite your friends directly. If you do this, they will get a message from you inviting them to visit the page and click the like button. This can be powerful, but it can also be very annoying to your friends if you are sending them invitations every day. It can also be annoying if the pages aren’t something they are interested in. Make sure you are careful when sending out invitations so you don’t annoy your friends.

The last big way to promote your fan page is to use Facebook ads. This can get you a lot of fans quickly, but it will also cost you some money. The nice part about advertising your page is that you can get multiple fans for the price of one visit because every time somebody clicks the “like” button, their friends see the activity and may do the same.

Facebook is the 500 lb gorilla of the social media world. The number of people using Facebook grows every day and it isn’t even worth keeping up with the actual numbers because they change so fast. The only thing you really need to know is that almost everybody in the world that has access to the internet uses Facebook. The key to using Facebook to make money is to create fan pages. These are pages that you can create to build a community of fans that “like” your page and by doing so share that page with all of their friends.

To be successful using Facebook to market your business, you must do it using fan pages and not your personal page. Your personal page is where you interact with friends and share funny stories and relevant personal items like birthday parties and family vacations. It is ok to add a link every now and then to your fan pages, but if you do this too often, you will come across as being fake and you will annoy your friends and this won’t help your business at all. Facebook gives you the ability to create an unlimited number of fan pages where you can market to people as much as you want so make sure to “keep it real” on your personal profile and keep the marketing to your fan pages.

I’m not going to tell you the exact steps on how to create a fan page because it constantly changes. If you need help just Google “create a Facebook fan page” and you will get links to the relevant Facebook pages.

So how does a fan page work? It really is pretty simple. You create a fan page on whatever topic you choose. You tie the page to a website or business so that people can go from your Facebook fan page to your money site. Fill your fan page with a bunch of relevant information. You can put links to information you have created on your sites as well as links to general web authorities like Wikipedia. You can attach videos you have created or have found useful. You can even type in your own information directly and ask questions of your fans. The key is to put enough information up that it doesn’t look like a blank page. Once you have the page done to your satisfaction, it is time to start promoting your page and building your fan base.

I have been watching a series of videos about online marketing experts helping local businesses.  With the economy still in shambles (in the U.S. and around the world) and soaring unemployment rates (it is actually 18.7% in the county I live in), we can't rely on the government or big corporations to get us out of the mess.  Fortunately, there are hundreds of millions of small businesses around the world (who knows, it may even approach a billion) that can have a dramatic effect on the economic recovery around the world.

Local Marketing

I have heard that 1/4 of all searches on Google are local searches.  This means that somebody is looking for something they are going to do or buy where they live.  There is a huge potential to get involved in this market by working with local businesses that desperately need help getting their busines in front of local buyers.  Fortunately, there are a few easy ways to do this.

The easiest way to get a local business in front of local buyers is using Google Places.  If your not familiar with it, this is the map with local businesses marked on it that shows up when a local phrase is searched in Google.  Usually, this local businesses map shows up at the very top so it is ahead of all the other search engine optimized pages.  The great part about Google Places is that local businesses can easily compete and often beat the big name companies because on the local scene, the playing field is pretty level.

Another great way to get a local business out there is with a Facebook fan page.  A fan page can draw lots of local people who share it with their friends and before you know it you have hundreds or even thousands of local fans.  This probably isn't as effective as having a really good Google Places listing, but it can still bring in a lot of business.

If you want to put a business in front of local buyers, you can also use traditional media.  Most areas have a weekly classified paper or a free paper that allows you to advertise for a really low price.  Putting  an ad in these free papers can bring in a lot of business as well.

These are just a few ideas on how to get great results with local marketing.  You can do this for your own business or go into business helping other businesses do this.  Whatever your need, local marketing can be a lot easier than large scale marketing and bring fantastic results quickly.

Google Getting Pickier With Rankings

As an internet marketer, I spend a lot of time reading about things going on in the industry.  I recently came across an article about how the latest Google algorithm change was penalizing sites that were made up of primarily duplicate content.  Whether this is entirely true or not, only the programmers at the Big G know, but it is certainly the concept that you would think they would embrace.  I, for one, say good job Google.

What this means, if true, is that the people that spend time and publish valuable content on the web will be rewarded.  This is what I have always strived for so I look forward to the improved rankings that are sure to come.  Even if they don't I will continue to strive to offer value to the web which is what we should all be doing anyways.

Internet Marketing in 2011

As a new year begins, a lot of people look at what the last year brought us and what the new year has in store.  Below are a few of my thoughts on last year and the year ahead.

In 2010, providing value became more important than it was in the past.  While there is still a lot of spam out there, high quality content is starting to win out over pure spam.  This is a good thing because it leads to more people paying for good content to be written which helps spread the wealth and provide more people with income in hard times.  Another big thing was Facebook.  You can say this for the last few years, but Facebook continues to change the way people interact on the internet and should continue to do so.

In 2011, I look to see Facebook continue to change the world.  Smart marketers will learn how to use Facebook to create value for their customers an grow a large following.  While this sounds simple, it is not.  Facebook marketing is completely different than normal internet marketing and this will be the topic of future posts and publications that I create.
